Items needed:
*High quality AC Voltmeter
*CD/MP3 with a 50 Hz and 1 kHz sine-wave test tone recorded at
0dB reference level. When testing use 50Hz for subwoofer amps
and 1 kHz for full range amp.
Do not use -10db, etc tracks, use only 0dB.
Step 1
Disconnect any speaker(s) fron the amplifier(s) in the system.
Start the vehicle and turn the audio system on.
Step 2
Turn the input sensitivty control on the amp all the way down
(counterclockwise).
Step 3
Set flat or turn off all processing on the head unit and the
amp.(bass boost, treble, loudness, EQ, etc).
Step 4
Set the head unit volume to 3/4 volume. This is important. The 3/4
volume setting is where the amplifier will begin to clip or produce
excess distortion after properly setup.
Step 5
Find the amp model and impedence load on the above chart to
determine the target voltage.
Step 6
Double check that the speakers are disconnected and the headunit
is at 3/4 volume.
Play a track with the approriate sine wave
(50 Hz = subs or 1 kHz for full range)
Step 7
Connect your multimeter (set to AC volts) to the speaker outputs of
the amp.
Step 8
Increase the sensitivity control until the target voltage is
reached.(from Step 5)
This has set up the amp to begin to clip at 3/4 volume.
Step 9
Once all adjustements have been made, reconnect the speakers
and listen to the system.
Small adjustments of the levels between the sub amp and full range
may still be needed.
Adjust the sensitivity DOWN on the amps if needed. Do not
increase settings from where it was in Step 8.
