Sharp is a Japanese
corporation that specializes in the production of electronic
products. The headquarters for the company is located in Abeno-ku,
Osaka, in Japan. As of March of 2014 the company employed over 50,000
people throughout the world.
Sharp was founded in
the year 1012 and the name of the company comes from one of the first
inventions from the founders, which was the mechanical pencil called
Ever Sharp. Tokuji Hayakawa was then inventor of this pencil. By
market share, Sharp is the 10th largest manufacturer of
televisions in the world.
Since the year 2000,
the company has invested heavily in manufacturing plants for LCD
panels opening one in Kameyama in the year 2004 and another in Sakai
in 2009. The plant in Sakai is the only 10th generation
manufacturing plant for LCD panels in the world and is known for
producing panels that measure 60 inches or more.
